1918 Oct 23. He gets his DSO for gallantry at Battle of Selles. A Company, 10th battalion had 7 tanks in action on 23rd October 1918.

Garrods tank fired 80 rounds 6 pdr and 300 SAA. The infantry consolidated on the Green dotted line and the tanks rallied. About noon a counter attack developed from the area from north of Eveque in L5.6. and 12. Garrod's tank was detached to assist in breaking up this counter attack, it knocked out several MGs but was itself knocked out at L11a.0.0 by a field gun in the north of Eveque Wood.

1918 Nov 11. MC Gazetted T./2nd Lt. Edgar Samuel Garrod, D.C.M., Tank Corps. For conspicuous gallantry and endurance in fighting his Tank in the enemy lines for five hours without assistance, when he dealt with large parties of the enemy. He then left his Tank and went back and personally led the infantry to their first objective.

1919 Oct 4. DSO Gazetted T./2nd Lt. (A./Capt.) Edgar Samuel Garrod, M.C., D.C.M., 10th Bn., Tank Corps. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty near Bousies 'on 23rd/24th October, 1918, in charge of a section of four Tanks. He personally led his Tanks on foot into the village of Bousies and directed their fire ou various strong points and machine-gun nests in houses. Throughout the two days' operations he had no rest, and under very heavy machine-gun, rifle and shell fire showed great energy and courage

1921 Mar 12. In charge to Ballybunnion detachment of H Coy when the Auxiliaries from H Coy Tralee delivered him wages, and were ambushed on return and T/Cadet W V Falkiner was killed. The inquest tells the story
