1899 Feb 26. Baptism of James John Gough of 5 St Johns Gardens, Island Bridge. Son of James John and Theresa Annie Gough. His father was a draughtsman.
1901 census at Dublin in 2 Valleymount, Ushers Quay, Dublin. Kathleen, his sister became blind as a little girl, eventually becoming a resident of the school for the blind in Dublin, where she resided for the rest of her life.

1924 May 27. He seems to be gearing up for a trans-Atlantic trip. Signs on as a "deck boy" on Gothic Star. It is difficult to know if he actually took up this employment, as another card exists in Sep 1924 when he certainly joined the Gothic Star as a Deck Boy
1924 Sep 23 This is him signing on as a seaman on his "first ship"the "Gothic Star" in South Shields, England as a "deck boy".The voyage was from South Shields in England to Vancouver, then on to Seattle. The Gothic Star left South Shields on 21 Oct 1920. He got as far as Vancouver, however the Crew List on arrival at Seattle shows that he never re-joined the ship when it left Vancouver on 11 Nov 1924 bound for Seattle.

So he jumped ship in Vancouver, and eventually knocked on the door of a boarding house (run by his future mother-in-law) in New Westminster. Later on married a daughter of the boarding house owners, and spent the rest of his life in New Westminster, and later Vancouver.
Married Marie Irene Lillian Marjorie Godfrey and they had 3 children - Terrence James Gough b. 3 Sept. l926 Maureen Theresa Gough b. 24 May l928 and Barbara Joan Gough b. 17 Oct. l938 All in New Westminster, B.C.

1935 Travels with wife (7 years younger) and two children (Terrence age 7 and Maureen age 6) 1 Kiminage Rd, Harold's Cross, Dublin. He is a "stevedore". The eldest child started school in Dublin, so that visit must have been for a period.
1945 His marriage fails. His drinking problems led to an unhappy marriage, and he and his wife separated around 1945. His wife who had never worked to that point, had to get a job at Eatons in New Westminster, where she worked till she retired at the age of 65, then worked part time till 70
