During a raid on the enemy's trenches he led his party to within thirty yards of the hostile position, and when held up by the wire and fire of the enemy immediately opened a rapid rate of fire, inflicting considerable casualties on the enemy. He was the last of his party to return, bringing in a wounded N.C.O. himself. Throughout the operation he displayed conspicuous dash and determination
