1909 May 27 Leaves UK for Wellington, NZ

1914 Oct 16. Embarkation date. Enlists as a Private in Canterbury Infantry Battn. No 6/331. He is later shown as a 2nd Lt with NoK his brother William, both of Mangere Road Otahuhu.

1916 May 10. A New Zealand paper reports that he is in a group "returning home shortly from the front". He is still a Private.

1916 Jun . Commissioned 2nd Lt

1916 Oct 16. He embarks again for Europe. He is now a 2nd Lt.

1917 Nov 26. MC Gazetted Lt Charles Robert Rawlings, New Zealand Force

1918 Jul 23 Married to Doris Eykyn Ward

1918 Aug 31. Appointed a Coy Commander with temp rank of Captain

1918 Oct 31. Promoted Captain

1920 Dec 6. Joined ADRIC with service no 1184. Posted to J Coy

1921 Jun 7. Resignation accepted after 6 months
