1920 Jun Constabulary Medal. Constabulary Medal was awarded to Sergeant William Ruth for the defence of Carrigadrohid Barracks. One of nine awarded also to Constables Richard Samuel Restrick, Michael O’Rourke, Patrick Dillon, William Hayes, Michael J. Dowd, John Elligott, Michael McMahon & Jeremiah McCarth. The barracks are aout 4 miles from Macroom. The IRA attacked 9 June 1920, and set the barracks on fire by pouring petrol onto ts roof from the Post Office next door. In the end the RIC garrison survived, but the barracks were destroyed

1925 Sep 11 leaves UK for Paleestine. He is Palestine Gendarmerie & travels 1st class Seems therefore to have been promoted

1933 Oct 10 Married in Belfast to Christina Isabella 'Ina' Dick (1911–1975)

1953 Jun 16 died Carlow. He is described as a Merchant
