1911 census. He is an apprentice Tailor. 18 Grove Rd, Mile End
1914 Jan 29 Attested to 5 Dragoon Guards as John Joseph . He was a tailor. Father Edward Guth, 20 Cottage Grove, Bow , London. Mother Jane, siblings Albert and Edward. Oddly 1918 Electoral Roll gives him at that address with Herbert Charles Guth and John George Guth. They dodged around to avoid the German connection, the others by changing their names and their fathers name, but still giving 20 Cottage Grove as their address
His father seems to have died a John G T Guth in Mile End in 1922, and his mother as Augusta J W Guth in Mile End in 1923
