1891 Jul 13 On Navy form it is 1890 but it was in fact a year later in 1891. census shows his parents, it is before he was born, but his brother Frank is there

1901 census he is a boarder at a school at The Cottage, Arbor Lane, Springfield, Essex. His brother Fran is with him

1906 Aug 2. Joins the Royal Navy

1911 Census. He is a seaman on a RN ship on the China Station. His father was a Lic. Victualer living at New Barnet and out of business.

1913 Feb 17. Deserts the navy (he said in Australian enlistment that he had served 6 years in RN and bought himself out)


1914 Oct 28 Enlists in AIF, He says he had served 6 years in Royal Navy and had bought himself out. He was born Chelsea and was working as a Railway Porter. His father is C W Barber of Railway Hotel, New Barnett. Born circa Jul 1891. All his Australian service was in Signals

1914 Dec 1. Promoted Corporal.

1915 Apr 4. Posted to Galipoli

1915 Aug 7 Promoted Troop Sgt Major.

1915 Dec 25. Posted to Naadi, Egypt from Galipoli

1916 Mar 22. Posted to Teb el Ker

1916 Jun 25. Posted to France, arrives Marseilles

1919 May 19. Applies for his discharge in England. His wife is in England and he has no family in Australia. He is going to enter into partnership with F C Barber, Victoria Hotel, Peckham. His wife is Mrs E G Barber at 56 Greet Rd, Brentford.

1921 Feb 28 Posted to N Coy as Company Commander in wake of Trim Looting scandal. He remains Coy Commander of N Coy till Jan 1922

1921 Aug 12 Re-engaged

1922 Feb 9. Discharged on Demobilization of ADRIC

1926 Aug 5. He returns to Australia, alone. "Staff organiser & manager". There is no sign of the death of his wife In fact she died in 1974. UK address at 214 Winchester Rd, Edmonton. 3rd class to Sydney.
