I cannot find him in 1911 census in either Canada or UK. His RAF record says he was a student at Mount St Mary's College, in Derbyshire
He does not appear to have joined the Canadian Exp Force
1917 Apr 11. Enlists in RFC. His next of kin is a cousin in Bray, Wicklow
1918 Mar 24 Gets his pilots certificate
1918 Aug 7. The following cadet to be temp 2nd Lt F R Bolton. His service record is available
1918 Sep 14. The undermentioned 2nd Lts. resign their commns., having been found permanently unfit for further instruction as Pilots or Observers: — F. R. Bolton.
1921 May 25. Accepted in England. Joined ADRIC with service no 1995. Posted to R coy
1922 Jan 17. Discharged on demobilisation of ADRIC

He appears to have started using "Hugh" at this time, and the presumption is that it is the same man. His marriage has the correct father
