2nd Lt. James Hogan, W. Rid. R., Spec. Res., attd. 5th Bn., T.F. For dashing gallantry during the clearing of St. Python on 20th October, 1918, when in charge of the leading platoon of the attack. He led his platoon with the greatest fearlessness, himself killing with the bayonet three of the enemy at the barricade across the main street at a critical time, and later chasing the enemy from house to house, and being responsible for many prisoners and several machine guns captured by his platoon
