When his company were subjected for three days to determined attacks of the enemy, who attempted to gain a footing on a ridge, he organised and led bombing parties on four separate occasions to eject the enemy from the trenches in which he was advancing, and upon each occasion was successful. His courage was of a very high standard, and was a fine example to his command
