Capt. Frederick Francis Cherrett Shepherd MC

1892 May 8. Born Woolwich, Kent ( I assume his father was a soldier in RFA). His father Frederick Shepherd was in the Boer War where he received the Distinguished Conduct medal (the family still have the medal)

He spent most of his early life in India where his father was stationed. His two sisters and brother were born in India.

1901 census He was living at 23 Friars Walk,Exeter, Devon with his mother,siblings and grandfather,Alfred Cherritt,(named on the census form as Alfred Sherrill).

1907 Joined the Army as a boy soldier

1911 census at Louisberg, 29th Brigade R F A, 125Th Battery, Bordon, Hants. A Gunner in RFA. His parents are at Harpury, Glocs and his father is an Army Pensioner.

1914 Aug 23. Landed in Salonica

1915 Dec 19 Commissioned 2nd Lt

1917 Jul 1. Promoted Lt

1917 Jul 21. MID.

1918 Jun 3. MC Gazetted

1919 Feb 9. To be Acting Capt while 2nd in command of a Battery Lt F.F.C Shepherd MC

1919 Oct 24. Relinquishes acting rank of Capt

1920 Sep 25 Gazetted out Lt F F C Shepherd with rank of Capt

1920 Nov 29. Joined ADRIC with service no 1142. Posted to K Coy

1921 Mar 19. Posted to D Coy in Galway.

1921 Dec 2. Admitted Galway County Hospital

1921 Dec 16. Discharged Galway County Hospital

1922 Jan 20. Discharged on demobilisation of ADRIC

1922 Apr 26 Bankruptcy hearing

1922 Aug 29. Leaves UK for Australia. He is a farm worker (same address as MIC)

1923 Mar 28 His wife Lydia (aged 23) and son Jack (aged 3) leave UK for Melbourne, Aus. Their address is as on MIC. He married Leda T Bondarenko in Baku, Azerbaijan 1914/1924
