1920 Jan. He went AWOL when stationed in Galway with an armoured car company of Tank Corps, when he failed to return from a 48 hour leave. A Month later he surrendered to Deputy Provost Marshall in London with the explanation "I unfortunately got into financial difficulties....My position was such that I thought I had no alternative but to hasten to town and endeavour to straighten my affair, expecting to be able to do so in a day or so, but a month elapsed before I could do so. "

1920 Aug 7. Tank Corps. Temp. Lt. E. J. Shields relinquishes his commission on completion of service, and retains the rank of Lt.

1920 Oct 13. Joins ADRIC with Service No 698 Posted to G Coy

1922 Jan 19. Discharged on demobilisation of ADRIC

1923 Apr. In the large group of reinforcements for Palestine Gendarmerie

1939 Registery. A dispatch Manager for Ice Cream. Living at 21 Caversham Road , St Pancras with Frances M Shields (in fact he did not marry her until 2 years later)

1941 Jan/Mar Married London to Frances M Hollidge

1958 Mar 9. died London aged 65 (the probate was to his brother)
