1924 Teacher registration at Vanbrugh Castle School, funded by RAF benevolent fund. The Fund held that the future of the boys was primarily determined by their own abilities. In reality the school provided a roof, a bed and the institutional care of a superintendent and matron, Captain and Mrs G.A.R. Slimming. The Fund hoped that in due course the boys would join the Royal Air Force and thus furnish the service with a supply of men.
