1901 May 7. Born Portsmouth son of Ernest William Smith and Harriett Louisa Snook . His father was a Coal Merchant.

1911 census at Hatherwood, London Road, North End, Portsmouth

1919 Jan 1. Commissioned 2nd Lt. Enrolled in Royal Marines but failed Gunnery and in the end was forced out of the Marines.

1920 Nov 19. Arrives in Canada, in transit to Shanghai. This job did not apparently work out.

1921 Jun 1. Applied to RIC (see RM Record)

1921 Jul 24. Arrived back in UK from Shanghai. He is a Clerk

1921 Nov 8. Joined ADRIC with service no 2167 Posted to N Coy.

1922 Jan. He still appears to be serving at demobilisation of ADRIC

1937 Register. Living at Regent Grove Street , Petworth R.D., Sussex (correct dob) A Police Constable

1973 Dec. Died Torbay, Devon Correct dob)
