1911 census I cannot find his father's first family, but father and new wife are at Warmore House, Dulverton. Ancestry tree. His brother Percy went to Australia

The Montclair Times 03 Feb 1955, "C.H. THOTNTON, ENGINEER Funeral services for Charles Henry Thornton of 192 Inwood Ave., Upper Montclair, mining engineer, archeologist, humanitarian and tree surgeon were held yesterday morning at the Home for Services, 56 Park St.The Rev. Dr. Joseph C. Dickson, pastor of the Presbyterian Church of Upper Montclair, officiated. Interment was in Union Cemetery, Hackettstown. Mr. Thornton died Sunday in Mountainside Hospital after a short illness. He was 63. Born in Hemyock, Somerset, England, Mr. Thornton was the great grandson of Henry Sykes Thornton (1760-1815), a director of the Bank of England, who was associated with Wilberforce in the English movement abolishing slavery. He studied mining in Australia. He spent the entire four years of World War I in France, serving as a captain of the West Somerset Yeomanry of the British Army, He was wounded in battle, following which he served in the British Counter-Intelligence Service. Mr. Thornton was a mining engineer in Australia and Canada before making many archeological expeditions to Mexico. He has lived in Upper Montclair nineteen years conducting a business as a tree surgeon.He has been an American citizen for ten and a half years.... Mr. Thornton is survived by his wife, Mrs. Dorothy Thornton, whose work as an artist has been exhibited in this community, a stepson John Thornton; a brother, Richard Thornton of England.."
