1901 Boer War

Wounded Severely on 28 June 1901 at Nr Bethlehem (Official casualty roll location: Nr Bethlehem) Unit: Royal Field Artillery Source: South African Field Force. JB Hayward & Sons Gazetteer: [2828: 2814-2828] a town and district in the Orange Free State (Bethlehem district; Free State). The town and district provided a commando for the Boer forces (Cmdt A.M. Prinsloo; Cmdt J.F. Naud‚; Cmdt H.J. Brouwer; Cmdt A.J. Bester). In July 1900 the town was defended by some 7,000 burghers under the command of Chief-Cmdt C.R. de Wet. After two days of fighting, Maj-Gen R.A.P. Clements entered the town, the Boer forces withdrawing to the south.
