1920 May 11. He married Violet Adelaide Parks at St. John’s, Leytonstone. Their only child, a son, Maurice. Watson, was born on 23rd December 1920. The marriage was not a happy one and in 1925 Violet petitioned against him for divorce, although this was later withdrawn. Violet Cullingford remarried for a third and final time to Frederick Henry Thomas Torode (1902-?) at St. Katherine Cree, in the City, on 23rd December 1928-described on the marriage certificate as “Single and Unmarried”. The son of her marriage to Victor Watson, Maurice Watson, assumed the new family surname of Torode when his mother remarried Frederick Torode in 1928 and became known as Jim. With the Second World War, Jim Torode joined the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. As Sergeant James Torode, RAFVR, he was killed in action on 10th April 1944 as a Flight Engineer with the loss of his Avro Lancaster of 576 Squadron– along with all his crewmates- shot down by a German night fighter while returning from a raid on the railway marshalling yards at Aulnoye, France, part of the bombing campaign against the French railway system in the build-up to D-Day.
