1915 Sep 23. The East Surrey Regiment. The undermentioned to be temporary Second Lieutenants: — Samuel Baster.

1915 Oct/Dec Married Gladys Christina Allen in Romford, Essex

1916 Oct 27. The undermentioned temp. 2nd Lts., from Res. Bns., to be temp. 2nd Lts. (attached), retaining their Army seniority . E Surrey Regt. S. Baster

1917 Feb 28. Silver War Badge granted. E. Surr. R. Temp. 2nd Lt. (attd.) S. Baster relinquishes his commission on account of ill health contracted on active service, and is granted the hon. rank of 2nd Lt.

1917 Apr 30 Leaves UK for Singapore. He is a "planter". Note that his father is in the rubber business.

1918 Mar 28. Arrives back in UK "Planter" in Malay States.

1920 Aug 31. Joined ADRIC with service no. 429. Posted to K Coy

1920 Dec 20 T/Cadet Samuel Baster obtained a cheque for £150 during an unauthorised raid on a civilian house.

1921 Jan 5 Wounded at Dunmanway

1921 Feb 22 Court Martial finds him guilty and sentences him to 6 months. T/Cadet Andrew Kemp Watson and T/Cadet T A Jones and DI2 Thomas Sparrow gave evidence

1921 Mar 1. Suspension lifted

1921 Mar 18. Resignation accepted.
