Joseph Kendall MC, Linc Regt

1884 Mar 17. Born Dublin (he made himself 3 years younger when he joined ARIC says in1887). I doubt that he was born in Dublin, He was certainly illegitimate, and his mothers maiden name was Kendall. I suspect her parents sent her away for the birth of the child, but could have been a number of places

1889 Thomas George Edwards married Effie Kendall in Sheffield in 1889

1901 census He is a boarder in 29, Mornington Road, St Pancras. Mother Effie is also there.

1901 Oct 9. Joined Militia 5th Battalion, Rifle Brigade. He was a 17 year old clerk living in London, born Dublin. His next of kin is his uncle, Thomas George Edwards, Regents Pk Rd, London. Thomas George Edwards had married Effie Kendall in 1889 in Sheffield. They are in 1891 census but there is no child in the house.

1901 Dec 2 Enlisted in West Yorks Regt

1904 His mothe. remarried. Her first husband Thomas George Edwrds had died in 1902. She remaried in Lambeth to Walter Dalgliesh Nicoll

1911 census shows him as KENDALL, Joseph, 1 Bn Duke Of Wellington's West Riding Regt, at Ambla, Punjab, India. Born Dublin 1884

1917 Feb 13 Gazetted MC. 2nd Lt. (temp. Capt.) Joseph Kendall, Linc Reg.

1917 Mar 31. Promoted Lt. J. Kendall, M.C. (2nd Lt., Linc. R.), from a Serv. Bn., Linc. R. 31 Mar. 1917, with seniority 12 Feb. 1916.

1919 Aug 10. Linc Reg..—Lt. J. Kendall, M.C., retires, receiving a gratuity.

1920. Sep 10. Joined ADRIC with service no 522. Posted to D Coy, entry says "bombing and machine gun"

1920 Dec 29. "Permitted to resign"

1933 Dec 2. The undermentioned having attained the age limit of liability to recall cease to belong to the Res. of Off.:— Lincoln R.—Lt. J. Kendall, M.C.

1939 Register. Living at 17 Brackley Rd, Chiswick with wife Sarah C. He is a Commercial Rep

1940 His wife Sarah died in Brentford
