Difficult to find as Charles MacDonald. Nothing in LG except DCM citation. His WO.338 entry has him as C R MacDonald, MC, DCM of East Yorks Regt. However his Service Record is on Ancestry

1901 Enlists in Manchester Regiment aged 18. For 7 years in Colours, plus 5 years in Reserves. His father is James MacDonald of 56 Moorhey St, Oldham. He also notes 2 brothers, Alec (in Grenadier Guards) and James

1902 Jul 28. Posted to St Helena. And promoted Cpl.

1902 Dec 31. Posted to South Africa.

1903 Apr 14. Reverts to Private at his own request.

1904 Feb 5. Posted to Singapore.

1904 Sep 22. Promoted Cpl again

1904 Dec 20 Posted to India. And Promoted Sgt

1909 Nov 4. Posted back to UK

1911 census at 40 Newark St Higginshaw Oldham, with his sister

1911 Aug 9. Married Delia Woods in Oldham. They have 3 children, born 1911, 1912 (in Ireland) and 1914.

1913 His report reads "careless in duties, honest, sober, very hard working and industrious"

1915 Jul 6. Off to war in Gallipoli

1915 Aug 7. Appointed Acting RSM in Dardenelles

1916 Jun 21. DCM Gazetted. For Consistent good work and devotion to duty. 11th Battalion Manchester Regt

1917 Nov 16. Awarded MC as a RSM

1918 Apr 1. Left unit to proceed to UK for 6 month tour of duty

1918 May 27. Granted temp commission as 2nd Lt in East Yorks Regt

1920 Oct 1. Joins ADRIC with service no 650 . Posted to M Coy

1921 Feb 23. Posted to E Coy

1921 Mar 13 to 26 Mar on Leave

1921 Apr 6. Resigned from ADRIC. "Permitted to Resign"

1921 Apr 14. He signs up for 90 days service in "The Emergency"

1921 Jul 2. His Emergency service with the army ends.

1922 Oct 16 He writes to Army to get his service record. He is living in Dublin at this time (same address as on MIC)
