He claimed in RIC enlistment that he was born 1894 Apr 18 in Dublin. The MIC however ties up with a man of his name born in Derbyshire. There are no such men born in Dublin at that time.

1918 Oct 21. DCM Gazetted. 242130 Sjt. H. E. Price, L'pool R. (Widnes). For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. This non-commissioned officer displayed coolness and resource in repelling an enemy raiding party. When they entered the trench he bombed them out and "hastened their retreat across " No Man's Land " with Lewis gun and rifle fire. He had done very good work for his company as Lewis gun serjeant.
