Arthur William Frank Snow CdeG

1886 Feb 17. Born Dublin as "Arthur William Frank Snow". He was the son of William Henry Snow born in 1859 in Woolwich in Kent – enlisted in the Royal Artillery on 13 Oct 1877 aged 18 and on 1 Apr 1885 (with permission) he married Edith Mary Deacon who had been born  in 1862 in Diltons Marsh, Westbury, Wiltshire. Born in Dublin when his father was in barracks there. Arthur’s next brother Harry Cecil Snow was also born there in 1887 – then they moved to India and two sisters were born. Unfortunately  dad William Henry Snow died just 5 days before his last child was born.  According to his service records (from findmypast) he died of Enteric Fever on 5 Nov 1891 in Kirkee, Bombay and is buried there.  He was a Sergeant. His mother Edith re-married in 1915 to a Thomas H Skelton (from Harry’s service records). His RIC record gives 1890 and Protestant

1901 Feb 22 Enlists in RFA (he was 4ft 8in and 15 years old. Mother Edith Snow at 293 Brixton Rd, London (3 Harley Gardens, South Kensington has been crossed out). Younger brother Harry Cecil Snow at R Hib School

1901 census gives his mother at 3, Harley Gardens, Kensington. She is widowed and working as a domestic servant

1901 census . He is a boy soldier in RFA at Seaforth Near Liverpool. Born Ireland

1915 Feb 21 Arthur Snow , a carpenter, aged 33, arrives in Liverpool from New York. He has been living in Canada

1915 Oct 1. Corporal Arthur William Snow to be temporary Second Lieutenant.

1918 Apr 19 Croix de Guerre gazetted to Lt Arthur William Snow, RFA

1919 Jun 22. Gazetted out as Lt

1920 Dec 13. Joined ADRIC with service no 1208. Posted to F Coy

1921 Jan 30 . Patrol in a raid on Mary Rigney's house

1921 Jun 15 Promoted Section Leader

1922 Jan 17 Discharged on demobilisation of ADRIC

1950 Jul/Sep Died Bromley, Kent aged 64. He lived at Club House , Eltham, Kent. There is probate but it does not help establish if this is him - probate with executor Eric Cecil Mould – born 1903 and no known connection.
