An enigmatic man, and even the army were finding it difficult following him

1893 Apr 5 baptised along with a number of his siblings

1901 census. I cannot find him in Ireland or England
1904 Feb 29. He joined the Army 29th Feb 1904, using the false name William John Crump. He was a Shunter


1906 Aug 16. Married in Queenstown, Cork to Mary Jane Irwin as Horace John Archer Crump. A few weeks before marrying Mary Jane Irwin, he converted from Church of England to Roman Catholic
1911 census - his wife is with her parents in Cork, no sign of him. He is in China, and is in 1911 xenus there with RGA

1911 Jul 29 Bought himself out of the army for £25 in Hong Kong. He got a refund of £9 when he enlisted in 1914
1913 May 9 His wife Mary Jane died in Rome.

1915 Feb 14, Married Lydia Maud Fryerkelsey (he styles himself Horace John Archer Crump) - 3 children born Maud 1916, Horace J born 1918 and Frederick born 1931
