1897 Jul 2 Resigned from RIC,No reason given to RIC. He claims later to go to South Africa and take part in the Jameson Raid. But the timings do not fit. The Jameson Raid (29 December 1895 – 2 January 1896) was a botched raid against the South African Republic carried out by British colonial administrator Leander Starr Jameson and his Company troops ("police" in the employ of Alfred Beit's and Cecil Rhodes' British South Africa Company) . And Hayes was with the RICfrom Oct 1894 until Jul 1897

1914 Sep 21. Re-enlisted in Scots Guards

1915 Jan 15 Discharged no longer physically fit

1915 May 5 Writes to Kitchener

1916 Jan 3. By now he has re-enlisted with London Irish Rifles, I cannot get that service

He must have been discharged from London Irish Rifles

1917 Feb 24. Enlisted in RE (he was previously with Scots Guards, time expired). 26 Edinburgh Rd, Mile End

1918 Mar 22. Discharged no longer physically fit
