News that Second Lieutenant John Howard Gem had been wounded only weeks after arriving in France . “LIEUT. J. H. GEM. “Canon Gem, vicar of Old Radford, Nottingham, has received intimation from the War Office that his younger son, Sec.-Lieut. John Howard Gem, R.F.A., was wounded on March 28th, whilst in action, and is now in hospital in London. On leaving Oundle School, Sec.-Lieut. Gem proceeded in due course to Weedon and Edinburgh, from which place he went to the front on March 13th . His elder brother, Captain A. H. Gem, M.C., Sherwood Foresters, was wounded last October.”
