The Auxiliary Companies

The Auxiliary Division was divided into companies, each company was finalised at 3 platoons per company, and had about 80 officers and men. Each stationed in an area of Ireland where it was felt that extra security was required. Each Company had the following composition
- Company Commander - graded DI1
- 2nd in Command - the Adjutant - graded DI2
- Intelligence Officer, graded DI3
- CQM (graded Section Leader) plus a A/Cqm (ungraded) running the Company Stores
- Transport (graded Section Leader) running the Companies motor vehicles
- 3 Platoons - each with a Platoon Commander - graded DI3
- Each Platoon comprised of 3 Sections - each Section under a Section Leader (ranked Head Constable) and comprising about 7 men (each ranked Sgt)
- Depot Company - Initially at the Curragh, and from Sep 1920 at Beggars Bush Barracks, Dublin
- A Company - Woodstock House, Inistioge, Co Kilkenny
- B Company - Templemore Abbey, Co Tipperary then moved to Belturbet, Co Cavan May 1921
- C Company - Macroom Co Cork, then to Portobello Barracks, Dublin in March 1921 after Kilmichael Ambush
- D Company - Galway City
- E Company - Coolavin, Co. Sligo. Then in Nov 1920 to Workhouse in Boyle, Roscommon. Then Jun 1921 to Workhouse, Westport, Co. Mayo
- F Company - Dublin Castle
- G Company - Lakeside Hotel, Killaloe, Clare. Then Jul 1921 moved to The Workhouse, Corofin, Ennis, Clare
- H Company - Moyderwell Technical School, Tralee, Co Kerry
- I Company - Workhouse, Mohill, Co Leitrim.Then Ballybay House, Monaghan And finally ,Hope Castle, Castleblayney, Co. Monaghan in Jun 1921
- J Company - Glengarriff, Co Cork. Then Feb 1921 to Macroom Co Cork.
- K Company - Cork City, moved after the Burning of Cork to Dunmanway, Co Cork in Dec 1920. Disbanded in March 1921
- L Company - Mount Leader House, Millstreet, Cork
- M Company - County Infirmary, Longford
- N Company - Trim Industrial School, Trim, Co. Meath
- O Company - Dunmanway
- P Company - Tubbercurry, Co Sligo
- Q Company - London & North Western Hotel, Dublin
- R Company - Dublin
- S Company - Dublin Castle. Communications Company ?
- Z Company - Dublin Castle, Police Advisor's Office
